Advocacy & Image

ASLRRA represents and promotes the industry's interests on Capitol Hill with lawmakers and regulators, working to eliminate unfair taxes and promoting common-sense regulation. ASLRRA's full-time, active lobbying team deals with issues that can help or hurt our industry, such as Positive Train Control and the 45G tax credit, and coordinates grassroots outreach and on-site events with legislators and member organizations. Staff experts serve and represent association members on important industry committees and groups, including Railway Industry Working Group (RIWG), Rail Safety Advisory Committee (RSAC), Surface Executive Working Group (SEWG), Switching Operations Fatalities Analysis (SOFA), Fatality Analysis of Maintenance of Way Employees and Signalmen (FAMES), Class I Caucuses, and many more.

Short Line Safety Institute

The Short Line Safety Institute was launched in 2015 by the ASLRRA with funding support from the Federal Railroad Administration, to address the safety culture on short line and regional railroads. The Institute is supported by the FRA Research & Development Office, the Volpe Institute, and the University of Connecticut.

Awards & Recognition

ASLRRA sponsors annual industry awards to recognize the best in our business and honor outstanding accomplishment in a variety of areas. Awards categories include: “Jake” Safety Awards, Safety Professional of the Year, Safety Person of the Year, Entrepreneurial Marketing Awards, President’s Safety Awards, and Distinguished Service Award.
